USC establishes a campus in the heart of Washington, D.C.

USC’s new East Coast anchor significantly expands its academic and research expertise, innovation, and talent in the nation’s capital

The University of Southern California (USC) today announced the opening of its new Capital Campus. As a leading research university, USC will convene high-level conversations with national and global opinion leaders on the most pressing issues of the day. The campus will serve as a coast-to-coast bridge for interdisciplinary researchers and policy experts to address national and global challenges in closer collaboration with leading government and academic institutions.

It is a nexus for the arts, public policy organizations, research agencies, and foundations. Washington, D.C. offers unparalleled opportunities for our experts, researchers, and students to learn and listen, connect and share views on the national stage. USC is known for its service to the Los Angeles community. We look forward to being an active participant in the civic life of Washington, D.C.”

USC establishes national presence with iconic 60,000 sq. ft. building

Located in the heart of Washington, D.C.’s Dupont Circle, the new campus marks a significant and historic milestone for the 142 year-old university, expanding its national and global footprint. The selection of Washington, D.C. puts USC at the center of global political and policy discussions, and the campus will serve as the university’s link to embassies and diplomatic outposts. USC will significantly expand student and faculty opportunities with new undergraduate and graduate programs spanning the arts, education, sciences, government, and journalism. With this new campus, the university also plans to increase outreach to local high school and community college students and create a gathering place for prospective students and its 6,000 local-area alumni.

“The USC Capital Campus will be catalytic for the northern end of DC’s Central Business District. The new campus fits into DC’s Comeback Plan as we emphasize the strong presence of Feds, Eds & Meds in the District,” said Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. “We cannot wait to welcome Trojans to the Nation’s Capital as together we fight on for DC’s Comeback.”

The Capital Campus is located at 1771 N Street NW in one of Washington, D.C.’s most recognizable buildings and is designed to a LEED Gold standard. The facility includes state-of-the-art office space, multiple event venues, an expansive courtyard entrance, and an outdoor rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of the Washington, D.C. skyline. In addition to classroom spaces, other enhancements will include multiple study areas, conference rooms, and plans for a theater and USC bookstore.

President Folt, joined by the Trojan Marching Band, will host a grand opening ceremony next month with featured remarks from Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, USC Board of Trustees Chair Suzanne Nora Johnson, USC Trustee Fred Ryan, and USC Price School of Public Policy Dean Dana Goldman, to mark the momentous occasion.
